Sleep Apnea in Hoover, AL

Sleep apnea is a serious condition that causes interrupted breathing during sleep, leading to low blood oxygen levels. In obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), the tongue is sucked against the back of the throat, blocking the upper airway and causing airflow to stop. As oxygen levels in the brain drop, the sleeper partially awakens, clearing the obstruction, and airflow resumes with a loud gasp. Repeated cycles of reduced oxygen levels can result in significant cardiovascular issues, along with excessive daytime sleepiness, depression, and difficulty concentrating. For individuals experiencing these symptoms, including those with milder conditions like Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS), seeking appropriate consultation is crucial. At Koslin & Kahn Oral & Facial Surgery, we offer consultation and treatment for sleep apnea at their Hoover, Alabaster, Jasper, and Clanton, AL locations. To learn if you have sleep apnea and find out what solution is best for you, contact your nearest Koslin & Kahn Oral & Facial Surgery location today.

Treating sleep apnea begins with understanding the symptoms and getting the right evaluation. This may include a review of your health history, specialized imaging to check the structure of your throat, and possibly a sleep study to monitor oxygen levels while you sleep. Common treatments start with using a mouth guard to reposition your jaw at night or a CPAP machine, which provides air pressure to help keep the airway open. If surgery is needed, options include procedures to remove extra tissue in the throat or tighten the soft palate using a laser or other tools. In more serious cases, surgery to reposition the jaw may be recommended to increase the size of the airway. These treatments are personalized to each person’s needs for the best outcome.

Sleep apnea treatments offer a number of benefits, producing relief and boosting comprehensive health for people experiencing this sleep disorder. Additional benefits include:

  • Boosted energy levels and minimized daytime exhaustion
  • Improved moods
  • Increased oxygen amounts in the body, leading to improved organ function
  • Enhanced concentration and alertness
  • Reduced threat of car accidents and improved safety while driving
  • Minimized snoring, resulting in enhanced sleep standards
  • Decreased threat of stroke, heart disease, and high blood pressure
  • Better wellness

I'm very surprised at all the negative reviews of this place. Dr. Koslin is extremely knowledgeable and has really improved my quality of life. Koslin has been doing this for over 25 years. If you are looking for honest truth and no fooling around koslin is your guy. I've seen him for the past two years due to a tmj disease and terrible sleep apnea. I have had two surgeries under koslin and he has really really helped/fixed my jaw issues. I am about his daughter's age and he is always open to any and all questions i have. He treats me like his kid. He doesn't play around about surgery and is a very honest and blunt person. Im very thankful for this man's knowledge, experience, and help.
